Project 365 (41/365): The Pendragons

.:42/365: The Pendragons:.

You just know we had to talk about them.

Often regarded as one of the most influential magicians of the 20th century, Jonathan and Charlotte Pendragon are the quintessential husband-and-wife duo that defies description. While other tandems of similar ilk regard the female half of the act as mostly an assistant, the Pendragons have a partnership of co-equals to the point that Charlotte herself has been named “magician of the year” from the Academy of the Magical Arts, making her the first woman to receive this honor.

The masters of slick choreography and production values, the Pendragons practically glide across the stage when they perform. Their smooth coordination is the product of years of practice and training in theatre arts, dance, and even stunt choreography for films. They are very well-known for physically demanding acts, including what is known as the fastest illusion on the planet, their version of “Metamorphosis” (Wait for that one on escapology week.). As very decorated performers, they have been mainstays in Vegas for years.

While their love story is as rote as can be, the twists and turns they’ve recently taken aren’t. At the moment Jonathan is incarcerated due to a domestic incident in 2009. Currently, Charlotte does shows on her own, proving herself a capable performer with or without Jonathan. It remains to be seen, though, how their relationship will turn out in the coming months.

The Pendragons have always been an exemplar when it comes to technical skill and execution. It would be a shame if this unfortunate incident would put an end to that, as I personally believe they still have so much to offer the magic industry.
